Teens & Adolescents
Pelvic health challenges don’t always disappear with age. Many teens and adolescents continue to struggle with issues like constipation, bedwetting, urgency, or leakage — even if these problems started years earlier. For others, new challenges arise during puberty as bodies change, hormones shift, and schedules become busier. These concerns can feel embarrassing or isolating, leading to stress, anxiety, and avoidance of social activities like sports, overnights, or travel.
One common concern for teens is painful or heavy periods (menstrual cramps). While some discomfort can be normal, severe or ongoing period pain may signal that the pelvic floor and surrounding muscles are contributing to tension and discomfort. Pelvic floor therapy can help by teaching relaxation strategies, posture and breathing techniques, and exercises that support better pelvic alignment and muscle coordination.
Pediatric pelvic floor therapy provides specialized support tailored for teens and adolescents. We focus on body awareness, muscle coordination, and healthy routines while always respecting privacy and independence. Therapy may include education about hydration, nutrition, toileting strategies, and menstrual comfort, as well as guidance for active teens on how sports, posture, and fitness impact pelvic health.
Our goal is to empower older kids to take ownership of their bodies in a positive, supportive environment. With the right tools, teens can overcome bowel, bladder, and menstrual challenges, build confidence, and fully participate in school, sports, and friendships without worry.
